Sarah, Kahel, Lucy, Lehna, Henri et Maelis, accompagnés d'Anton le photographe, ont exploré et interrogé, tels des vrais reporteurs, leur quartier, les Mordacs. Enregistrer, photographier, écouter, transcrire ceux qui y évoluent était leur mission. Aventure à laquelle ils ont tous pris un grand plaisir. Amis, animateurs, artistes, directeurs ont tous défilé devant l'objectif. Certains détails pouvant habituellement passer inaperçus, ont été scrutés, visés et immortalisés lors de cette "semaine de la diversité" et de la découverte.

Autour de la relation de l'artiste et son modèle nous souhaitons développer le savoir-vivre-ensemble des enfants. La citoyenneté est une valeur que l'on peut appréhender dès le plus jeune âge et l'art en est un excellent vecteur.
Nous utilisons la peinture et la photographie pour développer leur sens créatif et les encourager à se découvrir les uns les autres.
Deux heures intenses nécessitent beaucoup d'énergie; parfois les mamans manquent aux uns et l'agitation gagne les autres mais nous avançons, petit à petit!

From Anatolia

The Anatolia is such a tree that other cultures have spread their roots. Each culture took its place as branch, this tree grew for thousands of years and with it improved. We are now the newest seeds of the tree. From this project our aim was to reach down to the older ones who now keep us up. In th workshops each student researched about their own family tree, they found the stories of where their ansestors came from, who they were, how they came here to a land they now call home, and how the Anatolia welcomed them.

With this work, bridges were built that connect the past to present. At the end we understood that, many of came from Balkans whilest some from the middle asia, and even from Mezopotamia to the land we live on today.

Ce fut quatre jours intenses avec un groupe de neuf enfants et adolescents. Le thème qui a traversé cette semaine a été la rencontre.

Le titre du projet : "Portrait croisés".

Le dernier jour un petit spectacle a été donné devant une partie de l'équipe du SESSAD. Cette sorte de performance a concentré diverses choses abordées pendant ces quatre journées. Cela a véritablement soudé le groupe et crée une émulation collective positive.

Nous continuons notre histoire d'arbre. Nous avons fait plusieurs mobiles avec des souhaits, des coquillages pour le sonore et aussi un avec juste des papiers plastiques qui font aussi du bruit. Nous dialoguons sur les problèmes de sociétés (racisme, origines des uns et des autres, difficultés scolaires, problèmes avec la famille...) les jeunes apprécient beaucoup.

Since the beginning of this year we started working on linol cuts featuring portraits and trees to show the interdependence of nature. The students chose special sorts of trees that symbolize something for them. For example Alexandra and Ferdinand liked the fir tree because they have always spend a lot of time with their family in the forest. Johanna's print shows an apple tree that she has photographed during a walk with her family. Leonore's tree has become a kind of fantastic bubble tree and Jesse has chosen a birch. Desirée's selection fell on a winter picture of a lime tree and so everybody has a very special story connected with the icon of the tree in the linol cut.

A group of other students of the Anna-Schmidt-Schule took photos in Frankfurt studying the contrast of architecture and trees in the landscape of the city. It is interesting to see in an abstract way the difference between the geometric grid of windows and floor levels against the free flowing and soft lines of branches and twigs. And it was very exciting to experience the seasonal change of the plants with the blooms and leaves giving new more three-dimensional forms to the linear signs they were before. Spring is a wonderful time here in Frankfurt and we hope that all of the MdA-artists enjoy the warm and beautiful weather at this week-end.

A travers notre atelier PoéZik, nous exprimons notre vision du monde et de nous-même à travers l'écriture, la musique et les arts plastiques.

En choisissant de créer un slam du poème Tamtam, les élèves ont appréhender les bases de la création poétique et musicale afin de créer leur propre poème par la suite.

Actuellement nous rentrons dans le processus de leur mise en scène.

A chaque début d'atelier nous effectuons notre rituel du mot, dont en voici, ci-dessous la mise en forme plastique.

DE LA CONNAISSANCE DE SOI à LA DÉCOUVERTE D'AUTRUI,

DE NOTRE ENVIRONNEMENT: UN MONDE AUTOUR D'UNE FRESQUE.

Ensemble, nous réalisons la création d'une fresque destinée à la cour du collège, de 2,5 x 15 m.

Après nos présentations respectives autour des questions de l'homme-arbre et de la thématique "D'Art en Arbre", les élèves ont choisi de réaliser leur animal-totem, comme représentation de leur personnalité.

Ensuite, nous avons poursuivi les ateliers en nous réunissant autour d'un grand format blanc, créant avec des peintures de couleurs primaires, pinceaux et mains, une fresque à leur échelle.

Dans un premier temps, ils ont choisi un élément (terre, feu, eau, air) à illustrer, comme environnement de leur animal totem.

Puis, durant l'atelier suivant, ils ont changé de place autour de la fresque composée de leurs éléments, et ont dû créer des liens entre les peintures préexistantes de leurs camarades, en utilisant leurs thématiques, les couleurs, graphismes,...

L'énergie et la curiosité de l'ensemble de la classe étaient de mise comme leur créativité !

Here you can see some pupils of the 11^th grade of Altkönigschule in Kronberg/Germany and their paintings or drawings about this year theme: L'ARBRE. While preparing the final artwork, we are trying to make a journey through art's history. Regarding such different works like „Der Baummensch“ by Hieronymus Bosch or „Der graue Baum“ by Mondrian we compare the relationship from human being to nature/trees in former times and nowadays. These works also show some drawings concerning the „Metamorphoses“ (ancient world, Ovid, Meret Oppenheim).

Notre projet d' "Arbre Sonore" ou "Arbre aux Souhaits", sous la forme de mobiles est en cours. Nous avons fait des feuilles pour les branches, nous les avons peintes et écrit des souhaits dessus.

Entre temps nous avons fait une séance de musique avec des objets de récupération que nous avons apportés. Car nous avons l'intention d'utiliser ces objets pour l'Arbre également.
Il y avait des coquillages, du bambou, des sacs en plastique, des bouteilles en plastique... Simon, notre musicien, a essayé que tout le monde fasse de la musique, en montrant des gestes à retenir pour comme manoeuvrer un orchestre... Après quelques répétitions, certains enfants ont essayé de faire le chef d'orchestre...

Nous avons tenté aussi le "sound painting". C'est à dire dessiner ou peindre les sons qu'on entend. En figuratif ou abstrait, au choix. Cela ressemblait un peu à ce que fait l'artiste contemporain Cy Twombly!
Ces dessins aussi pourront être exploité pour décorer l'arbre.

Nous avons vu "en vrai" des symboles sur des statues, des Totems, des figurations abstraites...

Toute une spirale avec des instruments de musique, des tambours décorés

Nous avons pris des notes, fait des croquis, écouté et répondu à beaucoup de questions

Séance N°3 du 28 janvier 2011

Nous avons travaillé tous ensemble sur la création d'un anagramme avec les symboles peints de la semaine dernière.

Ce fut un travail en petits groupes , et la consigne était d'associer des mots au dessin central.

Pas facile de partager et de travailler ensemble! Mais le résultat fut surprenant et nous avons découvert des associations communes, comme l'Amour, La Nature, Les Vacances, Le soleil...

Nous avons parlé des différents pays du Monde et cela a permis au jeunes de voir que les pays sont différents mais l'imaginaire est commun.

Après la récréation , Isidoro nous a montré différents maracas provenant de plusieurs pays et cela nous a inspiré pour fabriquer notre propre maracas à partir de canettes de soda , graines de riz et emballages divers.

Nous avons avec la maraca, travaillé un peu le rythme (écoute et accompagnement du rythme de batucada ), mais le temps est passé très vite et la suite sera pour la prochaine séance!!!

Nous avons travaillé sur "les 5 lieux de Vie", ce qui a permis aux jeunes de se raconter,de nous parler de leurs lieux préférés, de leur pays d'origine et des lieux qu'ils aiment en France.

Ils apprennent à s'écouter les uns les autres: mission pas facile!!!

Nous avons relevé des lieux communs, comme la cuisine, le sport,la famille et la Nature

Après la "récré" nous avons travaillé sur les symboles en peinture, qu'est ce qu'un symbole?

Le symbole comme langage universel a permis à chacun de s'exprimer en couleurs, de jouer avec la peinture, laisser des traces de mains comme les premiers hommes dans les grottes!

L'expression picturale a dépassé le symbole et certains ont profité de cette séance pour faire passer des messages.

Ce fut un moment riche d'expression individuelles au profit d'une richesse commune.

Nous avons commencé notre atelier avec la classe de 6ème SEGPA au collège Jacques Prévert Paris 6.

Nous avons un groupe de 16 jeunes, motivés et très actifs.

La première séance du 14 janvier a été consacrée à faire connaissance.

Nous avons crée une roue à partir d'éléments de la nature et avec des bobines de fil, chaque jeune s'est présenté au groupe en lançant le fil vers un autre jeune.

Tout ceci a crée des croisements, des tissages colorés et a détendu l'atmosphère car ce n'est pas facile de parler de soi!!!

Avec ce jeu de ficelles nous avons réalisé tous enseble une ouvre collective qui va s'enrichir de séance en séance, tout le monde était fier du résultat

Nous sommes 2 artistes. Je suis Clotilde, je pratique les arts plastiques. Valérie est actrice de théâtre. Notre rencontre avec les adolescents est un travail très particulier et intéressant.

Les élèves.

La classe se compose de 13 élèves et un professeur, ils ont 15 ans, ils étudient la cuisine et l'hygiène.

Ils sont originaire de plusieurs pays : Guadeloupe, Madagascar, Côte d'Ivoire, Italie, Portugal, Haïti, Mali, Île Maurice, Turquie, France.

Nous devons parler de nous-même en étant ensemble.

News from Turkey ! What are they doing ?

A Drop of Peace...
The participating childrens are pupils in primary and junior high school children and they are accompanied by the artists Alp Gani Oral and Tuba Tiryaki.
The project has been realised by selected school children from different parts of Ankara (from different culture & economical conditions) come together for workshops.
Anadolu is very important homeland for many civilizations. 1280BC. Hittites and Egyptians (Mutavallis & Ramses II) come together on these lands to sign Kadeş, first written peace treaty in the world history (one copy on the wall of United Nations). So children start program by visiting Anatolian Civilizations Museum. Children surprised to see peace solutions of different cultures on Anatolia. Expecially children loved the idea of building shopping cities (Karums) . Building strong ties between different cultures by business (the idea do business no fight). After several museum visits children made brain storms to make link between art and peace. And they start to build their protecter lion (showing her teeth and three tails) who protects and preverves the peace.Just like how Hittites put lion statues on gates of Karums. For statue ordinary plastic bottles used by children.

Mevlana Calling...
Melek Koray, artist, accompanies childrens from primary and junior high school.
Mevlana is very important Turkish philosopher who lived 12.century. Known as one of the father of humanism. He influenced by ancient anatolian philosophers. Centuries later this ideas became very important steps of Renaissence in Europe. Last year celebrated as Mevlana year by Unesco.
In all steps of Project, music took important place. Neyzen Haluk Hilmi Derinöz (ney musician ) joined the workshops and gave mini concert to children. Children learned the ideas of Mevlana, his love which holds all religions. Children dance to catch the love. And they express their feelings on papier with ink. All painting come together on love installation.

And an other project is intituled A Box of Dream...
The artists are Melek Koray, Alp Gani Oral, Özge Sekreter and they accompany childrens from primary and junior high school.
Description of project :
Children in workshops tried to find the answers of questions: Who am I? My identity? Me in the world? What are my dreams? Then they come together in D-Atelier to create their dream boxes. Each child bring someting personal from home and find the answer of these questions by art. Final work, boxes come together by the help of artists.

« A cultural Dialogue » Project 2

The adolescents (14 to 18 years old) who frequent the Magen Avraham youth centre in Jaffa are all Arab teenagers, living in poor environment, many of them at risk. With no proper care, family structure, nor homes of their own they live at the extreme margins of the society
This project seeks to emphasize the various cultural and religious differences and complexities encountered by Muslims and Christians Arabs in Israel. Via the arts and artistic creation, both visual and theatrical, the workshop deals with questions concerning the sentiment of nationality, feelings of belongings, choice of language, possible future.
Through dialogue, conversation, and artistic creation, the participants are lead to deal, in a different way, with the society issues which preoccupies youth in general and their specific social, economical milieu in particular.
Being in the middle of our project these days, here also we are amazed to see the thirst of the teenagers for a meaningful activity. Young boys are more than willing to embroider a “bead” for the chain of art. They listen carefully, and sincerely do their best.
At the end of the project, an exhibit of their works is planned in the youth club, before the sending of the works to the international exhibition in Paris.
We are really moved to see real and useful fruits to our work.

“An intergenerational dialogue”

Elderly Centre in Neve Eliezer managed by the municipality of Tel-Aviv.

The main issue of this workshop is to investigate the possibilities of common creation and interaction between two categories of persons in the boundaries of the society, living close to each other in the same neighbourhood.
The project brings together school children from an elementary school and retired people from an elderly centre nearby.

The Golomb school gathers children from various quarters in the south of Tel-Aviv. The chose group is composed of 12 6th grade children with obsessive compulsive disorder, who are considered in « school failure ». The group is correlated with 6 aged persons from the Neve ELiezer elderly centre located in the same neighbourhood.
The idea of merging is expressed in more than one way: it is a merging of artistic techniques, of different kinds of people and also between two artistic disciplines.
The children and their aged guests are creating together chains of art works. We are now heading towards our ninth meeting (out of ten) and we are moved to see the development of friendship and mutual understanding, as well as learning and listening together, and even… recognizing sentiments of pleasure and pride in and out of their work.

Once the workshop is over, after the last meeting, we will organize an exhibition of the works at the elementary school, to which the aged people will be invited to bring members of their families and friends to visit.
For us, artists, this is an exciting encounter and a wonderful way of creating “chains” in some small alienated society of our time…

Handala, the Palestinian defiance symbol...

Handala is the most famous of Naji al-Ali's characters. He is depicted as a ten-year old boy, and appeared for the first time in Al-Siyasa in Kuwait in 1969. The figure turned his back to the viewer from the year 1973, and clasped his hands behind his back.

The artist explained that the ten-year old represented his age when forced to leave Palestine and would not grow up until he could return to his homeland; his turned back and clasped hands symbolized the character's rejection of "outside solutions". Handala wears ragged clothes and is barefoot, symbolizing his allegiance to the poor. In later cartoons, he sometimes appears throwing stones or writing graffiti.

Handala became the signature of Naji al-Ali's cartoons and remains an iconic symbol of Palestinian identity and defiance; the artist remarked that "this being that I have invented will certainly not cease to exist after me, and perhaps it is no exaggeration to say that I will live on with him after my death".

We were working on metissage and tried to make a connection between our ancestors and the roots of our families and today by chosing old photos, enlarge them on a black and white photo-copy and paint. Here are some examples:

This picture is from Isaax and designed by Ben Ferro. It shows Isaax as a baby. He is at a beach in Mexico. The design is made for showing the free posibility of showing himself. His grandma is holding him and he is holding a little doll which is very sad about life.

Our schoolyard is as grey as the original photocopy. I want much more colour, like in this picture. The only parts I left to be grey are the only spots of colour in our yard. In my opinion this picture misses green, like our schoolyard. Written and designed by Tenny.

Benjamin changed this picture. The picture shows Benjamin as a baby. He sits on the floor at a flat in Kiew, Ukraine. In the flat it was very cold, so he painted himself a cap. Because of growing up in Russia he is wears t-shirts and shorts every day in winter.

Via a practical approach, participants learn to read and understand a repertoire of symbols which they incorporate in their own creations, both personal and collective. Symbols, symbolic representations, and metaphors are at the same time mirrors of human nature, living images, and sources of artistic creations. Mysterious as they canbe, symbols are powerful tools of communication, both universal and individual, andtalk to our intelligence and to our senses. In our approach participants intuitively learn to decipher the message conveyed by symbols chosen along paths within museums (from primitive to contemporary art), but also borrowed from architecture, literature, music, and other domains, and thus realize they can “read” and understand various societies and cultures. This collective grammar of symbols finally allows them to discover mutual values, cross-culturalsimilarities, and to find that they share far more common references than they imagined.

Visit-workshop in the Museum Quai Branly

An unpartitioned geographical itinerary comprising 3,500 artefacts from all four corners of the world.

At the end of the ‘ramp’, the long winding walkway that spirals up from the reception hall, the permanent collections area presents the great geographical regions in which the Musée du quai Branly’s remarkable collections originated: Oceania, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The visitor makes his way fluidly across them, taking in the major crossroads between civilisations and cultures: Asia-Oceania, Insulindia, and Mashreck-Maghreb.

The 3,500 artefacts are presented so as to highlight the historical depth of the cultures that produced them, and the many different meanings that the works themselves possess. The museography encourages the visitor to take the time to inform himself on major thematic areas: masks and tapa in Oceania, costume in Asia, and African musical instruments and textiles form the subjects of a series of fascinating video presentations.

Some of the pics taken by the young participants. It is from these pictures and from these art works that the young participants of the workshop of the Secondary school Colbert are going to work this year around the notions of concrete and abstract. They are then going to have to stage through their feelings, their body and their imagination and trying to habit this art works through the photography and the slam artistic tools.

Welcome to all and to everybody !

While the various artistic workshops have begun at the moment in Turkey, Israel-Palestine, Germany and France, here is finally our space of exchange beyond the borders ! This is our common blog which is built by the contribution of every participant.
Some short presentations...

From Turkey, thanks to Alp (director of D-Atelier), two schools from Odtü and Türk Eðitim Derneði of 12 and 13 students are with us. Their workshop has started since december 2008. An other group of 5-6 childrens from D-Atelier will join us.
Two groups from Kale region (near from Ankara) : 7 students of 9-10 and 7 students of 11-13 years old.
We will have the pleasure to welcome two groups of women during March : from Çankaya municipality and D-Atelier.

From Israel-Palestine, the young people from camp of Dheisheh make live the blog. The young people from towns of Julis and Eilat are also invited. And maybe others !

From Germany, to Frankfort, the class 'Art and Design workshop' of Anna Schmidt High School and the 20 students of 14-19 years old give their contributions. They work on the idea of metissage and reinterpretation of past and present.
One group from Stuttgart is followed by Juliane.
And from the town of Odenwaldschuler, 18 students of 15-16 years old will share with us their project.

And from France, in Paris and near region, four classes participate,
- 33 students of Colbert High School built, with the artists Elisa (writing) and Estelle (photo-video), a dialogue between pictures and writings to make live cultural diversities. Research of identity and metissage of memories.

- Students of 11-12 years old of Jean Bullant secondary school create identity cards with the help of the plastic artists Clothilde and Isabelle. They ask for their origins and their imaginaries.

- One project intituled 'Arborescence' is developed by a class from Liberté secondary school : with researches in historic documents, the students work on the different symbolic representations and their connections. These symbols can become reference for identity. Every student will can express themselves by photography or plastic arts with the artists Bernadette and Marion.

- And a class from Marie Curie secondary school, young peoples of 13-15 years old introduce their project intituled 'Un autre moi' : they imagine an other way of life with a collectiv material : the ancestral myths which found our collectiv history. Their tools are slam (with the artist Isabelle) and drawing (with the artist Nativ).

Later, we expect for the contribution of a group of women from Maison du Bas Belleville.
